Ban on Jewish Immigration to Palestine Assailed at American Federation of Labor Parley

The closing of Palestine to Jewish immigration was severely criticized here last night by labor leaders addressing the American Federation of Labor forum on post-war problems which is being held at the Hotel Commodore, It was emphasized by principal speakers at the forum that the A.F. of L. expects to see racial discrimination outlawed internationally as one of the major steps toward a better world after the war.

David Dubinsky, president of the International Ladies Garment Workers Union, described in the course of his address the martyrdom of the Jews in occupied Europe and told the audience of the heroic battle of the Jews in the Warsaw ghetto. The ban on Jewish immigration to Palestine, he said, prevents the rescue of many Jews who could still be saved. “Few will be able to defend the present British policy with regard to Palestine,” he said. He emphasized that he expressed the opinion of organized labor in the United States. The British White Paper policy, which closed Jewish immigration to Palestine, beginning with this month, was also assailed in an address by Max Zaritsky, president of the Millinery Workers Union.
