The Mugoslav Government-in-Exile today reported that Gen. Michailovich has allowed the formation of a Jewish unit in his army. “This permission has been given upon the demand of the Jews,” the announcement said. It emphasized that the unit will be composed of “all Jews who were until now in the ranks of the Yugoslav Army in occupied territory” and that it will fight together with all other units of Gen. Michailovich’s command.
The Yugoslav Government-in-Exile also reported today that in eastern Serbia, near the copper mine of Bor, units of the Porech Brigade attacked German soldiers who were escorting fifty-two Jews, transported from Hungary to work in the mine. Twelve Germans were killed and three Jews. The other Jews were rescued and taken to safety in the mountains.
