A census of the Jewish population in Peru is now being taken for the first time. The Jewish community here hopes to have it completed before July 28th when the first Congress of Peruvian Jewry will open a two-day session to formally establish a central representative body which will be able to speak in the name of all the Jews of Peru.

The Congress, in which representatives of every existing institution in the country will participate, will also discuss the question of relief for the Jews in occupied Europe, and will define its attitude toward the demand for the establishment of Palestine as a Jewish Commonwealth. Jewish leaders in Peru resent the fact that the information bulletin published by the British Legation here carried an article justifying the White Paper and asserting that Palestine is no longer capable of absorbing new Jewish immigrants.
