The State Department today notified Adolph Held, chairman of the Jewish Labor Committee, that careful consideration is being given to suggestions contained in a memorandum submitted by him to Secretary of State Cordell Hull asking for the complete restoration of rights and property to East European Jews who lived in France prior to June 1940, when the Germans occupied Paris.
The Jewish Labor Committee’s memorandum also called Mr. Hull’s attention to the problem of repatriation which will soon confront a large number of unnaturalized French Jews who were deported, or escaped from France. The document also proposed that just compensation be given to those whose property was confiscated or destroyed as a result of the anti-Jewish decrees and that a scheme be devised to enable these persons to recover their property or receive proper compensation without undue delay.
