The War Refugee Board today issued a statement to the press taking issue with Gov. Bricker of Ohio, Republican vice-presidential candidate, who, in a speech at Denver yesterday, assailed the action of President Roosevelt in establishing the Emergency Refugee Shelter in Oswego, N.Y.
The statement emphasized that Gov. Bricker was among those who joined in an appeal to the President in May, 1944, urging the establishment in the United States of temporary havens for refugees from Europe. The Board also pointed out that Gov. Bricker’s charge that most of the Fort Ontario refugees were men was not accurate, since the majority of them are women and children.
