The serious differences which are developing between the Anglo-Jewish Association and Zionist leaders over the question of the post-war status of Palestine will assume a wider aspect next week after the Board of Deputies of British Jews issues a “Declaration of Palestine” in behalf of British Jewry.
It is understood that the Board of Deputies will demand that the United Nations proclaim Palestine, after an agreed period of transitional government, as a Jewish State or Commonwealth and that all Jews who wish to make their homes there shall have the right of entry, settlement and citizenship.
Leaders of the Board of Deputies emphasize that the national status conferred by the Jewish State or Commonwealth shall be confined to its own citizens, and shall not prejudice the rights and political status enjoyed by Jews in any other country. They also hope that the Jewish State or Commonwealth may find a legally secured place within the British Commonwealth of Nations. They are for equality of rights in the Jewish State for all citizens of Palestine, irrespective of race, religion and language, and urge that this equality be secured by international guarantee.
