The Yiddish press in the United States will be 75 years old tomorrow, it was announced today by the Jewish Writers Union. The announcement stated that the first Yiddish newspaper in this country, the Yiddish Zeitung, was founded in New York on March 1, 1870.

The 75th anniversary will be observed on Sunday at a special celebration arranged by the Jewish Writers Union at Hunter College. Principal speakers will include the editors of all the Jewish daily newspapers. A special volume giving the history of the Yiddish press in America and the role it played in the development of Jewish communal life, will appear on the day of the celebration. Funds derived from sale of the book will be used to help in the restoration of the Jewish press in devastated Europe.
