Thirty three members of the Anglo-Jewish Association today announced that they have sent a memorandum to the Colonial Secretary expressing their disagreement with the memorendum submitted on January by the Association, which, they charge, ignores the principal issues concerning the future of Palestine. The Association, while supporting unrestricted immigration into Palestine, refrained from demanding creation of a Jewish state.
The memorandum of the dissident members asserted that only a Jewish state can solve the problem of Jewish home lessnoss and urged establishment of such a state, which, they said, they hoped could become part of the British commonwealth of nations. It asked an end to the white paper and the transfer of control over immigration and settlement to the Jewish Agemcy. The memorandum said that these views are hold by most British Jews and by the majority of Jews throughout the world.
“Official burial” of the White Paper is urged today in the Manchester Guardian. Agreeing that while the ultimate solution of the Palestine problem, “which must provide in some form or other for a Jewish state with full rights for the Arabs,” cannot be expected until the end of the war with Germany, the paper says that certain things can be done now, including lifting of immigration restrictions which would permit many homeless Jews in Europe to omigrate to Palestime.
