A group of 48 Jewish soldiers attached to British units who were captured by the Germans during the battle in the western desert, and who were recently released by the Red Army after escaping from the prison camp in Germany where they were held, arrived here today.
The liberated prisoners disclosed that they had met in the Polish city of Bydgosez thousands of Jewish women who were saved by the advancing Russian troos from German “death camps”. They estimated that there are at present about 8,000 Jewish survivors in Bydgosoz.
The Mishmar, a daily newspaper published by the Hashomer Hatzair, today reports that the authorities in liberated Budapest returned to the Hechalutz organization there its building, which was confiscated by the pro-Nazi Hungarian regime, The building has been converted into a Jewish orphanage for more than 1,000 Jewish children whose parents were killed by the Germans and by the Hungarian anti-Semitic Arrow- Crossers.
