The executive of the Jewish National Council of Palestine today announced that it has decided to ask the United Nations that a seat be assigned to a representative of Palestine Jewry on the international committee which will decide on reparations from Germany.
The Jewish National Council also decided to ask the United Nations that all Jewish art and cultural treasures looted by the Germans from annihilitated Jewish communities in Europe, and recovered by the advancing Allied armies, should be sent to Palestine.
The first all-Jewish mobile medical unit left here today for Greece to give aid not only to Jews but also to all Greeks. The unit is composed of thirty physicians, nurses, drivers and interpreters mobilized through the Palestine Medical Association, the Jewish Nurses Organization and other groups.
At a farewell ceremony last night, the unit was presented with a Blue-White flag in the presence of Jewish leaders who emphasized the importance of the fact that the first group of Jewish pioneers from Palestine was leaving for a liberated European country to work under the supervision of the UNIRA in extending aid to local populations. The unit has a number of orthodox Jews among its members.
A three-day symposium on the character of the Jewish villages in Palestine, which will deal with their economic and social structure and their influence on Jewish life, opened here today under the auspices of the Hebrew University, Dr. Judah L. Magnes, president of the university, members of the institution’s faculty, and representatives of the various types of settlements in Palestine will participate.
