Jewish leaders were still making efforts today to secure the transfer to the OSE of 92 Jewish children from concentration camps in Germany who were placed in the custody of the Ministry of Prisoners and Deportees when they arrived here on Friday, instead of being allowed to go to OSE homes, as were over 400 other children from Nazi camps.
The 92 children, who, apparently, were destined for emigration to Palestine, were placed on a train arriving in Paris, while the other children were put on trains which took them directly to OSE homes in Ecovy. The night before the train was due in Paris, OSE officials told the Jewish Telegraphic Agency today, they were informed by the Ministry of Deportees that the children were to be placed under the Ministry’s care and were asked not to meet the train. The OSE officials complied, and the alternation that developed at the station was between representatives of the ministry and U.S. Chaplain Robert S. Marcus.
The OSE officials expressed the hope that the government will eventually turn the children over to them. Meanwhile, the 92 are still at the Hotel Lutetia in Paris. Leaders of the group reveal that 240 others, who also apparently plan to emigrate to Palestine, are at the Hallersloben camp from which the 92 came, as are some of the present arrivals’ parents who expect to join them.
