Prominent Jewish religious leaders participated last night in a “Sium” celebration at the Waldorf-Astoria Hotel arranged by the American Biblical Encyclopedia Society, marking the completion of Volume Nine, Tome 10 of the 30 volume Biblical Encyclopedia “Torah Shelemah,” an accumulation of all the comments on each verse of the Torah from the period of the Mishnah (200 C. E) to the and of the Gaonic period (middle of the 11th century.)
Rabbi M. M. Kasher, editor of the Encyclopedia, who began work on it 15 years ago, was present at the ceremony. The volume was presented to him and to Julius Stulman, Brooklyn Jewish philanthropiet, by Alex Cowen. During his present visit to the United States, Rabbi Kasher was informed that he was one of the seven recipients of the “Rabbi Cook Award” given by the Tel Aviv municipality for the best religious literature of the year.
