Dr. Joseph M. Schwartz, European director of the Joint Distribution Committee, arrived here today from Europe aboard a Pan-American Clipper. Dr. Schwartz, who has been absent from the United States for eight months, will consult with JDC officials here on the problems of relief and rehabilitation of the 1,500,000 surviving Jews in Europe.

During the war, the JDC leader was in constant contact not only with the Jews in Allied countries, but, indirectly, with those in occupied territory, and as soon as the various parts of Nazi Europe were liberated, Dr. Schwartz set up JDC offices to provide relief and assistance. He has toured all the liberated countries in recent months.
