Jerusalem (Sep. 28)
Senator Claude Pepper, of Florida, who is here on an official investigating mission concerned with the renewal of trade between the United States and the countries of the Middle East, was entertained last night by representatives of the Jewish Agency.
An Arab news agency dispatch from Cairo quotes Rep. Karl Mundt of South Dakota, who is there as part of the same delegation, as stating that President Truman’s request for the admission of 100,000 Jews to Palestine merely expresses his personal opinion, and not that of the American Government.
Mundt is reported to have said that the President could send 50 proposals to Congress without getting action on any of them, The United States, he is alleged to have stated, is deeply interested in helping the Arabs to obtain full liberty. Rep. Mundt is expected here during the week-end.
