Free medical service is being given all needy Jews, and former Jewish partisans and concentration camp victims, it was reported by Dr. M. Bechmeninoff, head of the Jewish Polyclinic here, on the occasion of the institution’s first anniversary.
Among the activities conducted by the polyclinic, he said, was a home visiting service for needy patients, a diabetic center and a health education program among the Jewish population. Dr. Rachmanioff said that steps have been taken to secure return of the Jewish Hospital here, which was temporarily requisitioned by the military authorities.
The polyclinic is financed by the Jewish community, which, however, is not able to provide all the required assistance. It is hoped, therefore, that Jewish groups abroad, especially the Joint Distribution Committee, will send aid.
Col. Avram Radjer, chairman of the local JDC committee, informed the mayor of Sofia today that 500 of the pairs of shoes provided for the Jewish children of Eulgaria will be distributed to non-Jewish youngsters. The Mayor expressed his thanks on behalf of the community.
