Asserting that the British Government is shutting off all Jewish immigration to Palestine, Dr. Abba Hillel Silver and Dr. Stephen S. Wise, joint chairman of the American Zionist Emergency Council, today sent a telegram to President Truman asking him “to take the necessary steps to disassociate the American Government from all participation in this latest of a succession of injustice and iniquities.”

The Zionist leaders pointed out in their telegram that the British move comes after Great Britain has obtained American consent to participate in the joint Anglo-American Committee of Inquiry on Palestine. “We hope that you will not countenance that the joint committee procedure, to which you were induced to give your consent, should be used to prolong the agony of homeless Jewish refugees refused admission into their National Home,” the telegram said.
