High Commissioner Sir Alan Cunningham is conferring with the Colonial Office in London on steps to be taken with regard to the boycott of Jewish goods from Palestine proclaimed by the Arab League, an official communique revealed today.
The communique said that discussions with London were necessary because the boycott is of “direct concern to the Mandatory Power, which is responsible for the well-being of all the peoples in Palestine.”
Jewish groups have been pressing for several weeks for action by the Government, and the Hebrew press has published several sharp attacks on its failure to act against the boycott.
Capt. Warchslamos of the Greek vessel Demetrios, which, last November, landed about 200 “visaless” Jews in Palestine before being apprehended by British patrol craft, was today sentenced to two years imprisonment. His crew of five was acquitted, but will be detained until they can be deported to Greece.
Desecration of several synagogues by police hunting for terrorists was protested today in a letter sent the Inspector-General of Palestine Police by the chief rabbinate. The letter also charged that police had searched the phylacteries of Jews who were at prayers when the raids occurred.
