The Hashomer Hatzair, which has been a leftwing semi-political movement for many years, has decided to reorganize as a full-pledged political party, it was learned today. A country-wide conference has been called for Feb. 20, at which time the formal establishment of the party will take place.
The Palestine Socialist League has already agreed to enter the new party, and it is thought possible that several of the left-wing elements in the Histadruth, the Palestine Federation of Labor, will also join. Among the results of this action will be a weakening of the position of the Mapai, the Palestine Labor Party, which is the majority group in the Histadruth, and a possible realignment of the present coalition in the Jewish Agency.
A Mapai conference here today is discussing the Hashomer Hatzair’s decision. The laborites are also considering the situation in the Jewish National Council, in which there are no representatives of a bloc of right-wing parties, which boycotted the last elections to the Jewish National Assembly, which selects the Council.
