A drive to raise a $4,000,000 fund to sponsor the fight against bigotry, prejudice and racial hatred was announced today as one of the major aims of American Brotherhood Week, which will begin Sunday.
Specific steps to achieve the American Brotherhood program include mobilization of public opinion against all prejudices which divide Americans, and establishment of a positive program of civic cooperation among all groups. The call to observance of Brotherhood Week, sponsored by the National Conference of Christians and Jews, was made by President Truman, who heads a national board of governors made up of 1,000 prominent Americans, which is taking the lead in mobilizing the country against bigotry and prejudice.
As part of the Week’s observances, the Conference will award a citation of “distinguished merit” to the Jewish Theological Seminary of America and the National Broadcasting System for the “best network religious series, The Eternal Light.” The award will be made Sunday by Charles Tuttle, member of the New York City Board of Higher Education, and will be received by Rabbi Moshe Davis, program editor for the series and registrar of the Rabbinical School.
