The Anglo-American Inquiry Committee arrived here today from Cairo in a heavily guarded train equipped with a radio transmitter. The members of the committee were not at the station by representatives of the Palestine Government and by U.S. Consul Lowell C. Pinkerton, but no representatives from local organizations were present. Correspondents and photographers were barred.
Special security measures taken by the Palestine Government for the protection of the committee include barbed wire barriers around the King David Hotel where they will reside during their stay in Jerusalem. A strict identity check has been introduced for all persons entering the hotel.
The committee is expected to remain in Palestine for three weeks, during which hearings will be held on the Arab-Jewish problem. Police patrols will be intensified in Jerusalem during the hearings, it was reported today.
