The first 1,000 Palestine immigration certificates available under the present 1,500 monthly temporary quota have been assigned to children, most of whom are orphaned, it was reported here by Eliahu Dobkin, Jewish Agency immigration chief.
Dobkin said that 470 visas had been allotted to children in the U. S. zone, 125 to the British zone and 70 to Austria. These youngsters will be joined in Marscille by 300 children from Czechoslovakia, and France. They are expected to sail about April 15.
Dobkin has just returned from Landsberg, where he attended a conference of the “Ichud,” the joint organization of Zionist groups in Germany. The meeting, he said, discussed emigration problems and the forthcoming World Zionist Congress.
(UNRRA headquarters in Frankfurt announced tonight that about 450 Jewish children from DP camps in the Munich area are expected there on Wednesday. They will be joined in Frankfurt by a number of children from the British zone. Both groups will then proceed to Marseille for embarkation to Palestine.)
