Dr. Bernhard Kahn Marks 70th Birthday Today; Honored by J.D.C. Leaders

Dr. Bernhard Kahn, honorary chairman of the European executive council of the Joint Distribution Committee, who has been active in Jewish safe for more than forty years, and under whose guidance the J.D.C. spent many millions of dollars to aid Jews in Europe, will celebrate his 70th birthday tomorrow.

The occasion was marked at a special party in his honor at the Harmonie Club yesterday at which Paul Bacgwald, honorary chairman of the J.D.C., reviewed Dr. Kahn’s service to the Jewish cause. The work of Dr. Kahn, and the “dignity and devotion” with which he carried out his duties, were also landed by Alexander Landesco, comptroller the J.D.C., who presented a plaque to him on behalf of his co-workers in the J.D.C.

Until 1921, when he joined the J.D.C. as director of the organization’s work in Europe, Dr. Kahn was for eighteen years general secretary of the Hilfeverein der hatschen Juden in Germany. He has been a director of the Keren Hayesod since 1939, a member of the administrative committee of the Palestine Economic Corporation, a member the council of the American Joint Reconstruction Foundation, and a member of many other central Jewish institutions.
