The Italian Government will not hinder the departure from La Spezia of the “Fede,” on which 1,040 Jewish refugees plan to sail for Palestine, Premier Alcide de Gasperi today told a Jewish delegation headed by Dr. Umberto Jashon, representative of the Jewish Agency in Italy. Instructions to this effect have been issued by the Ministry of the Interior, the Premier revealed.
Premier de Gasperi also told the delegation that he had ordered the Italian Embassador in London to call upon British Foreign Minister Ernest Bevin to secure permission for the “Fede” to leave Italy.
