Joseph Chaikin, author and member of the editorial staff of the Jewish Day since 1919, died here yesterday of a heart attack. He was 61. Chaikin, who was born in Russia, came to this country in 1901 and became active in the Jewish labor movement. Later, he served as a city editor, managing editor and special correspondent for the Day. He recently published a work on “Jewish Newspapers in America.” He is survived by a wife and three children.
