The charge that UNRRA officials in Germany consider the displaced Jews to be “people of an inferior class” was made at a press conference here by H. Leivick and Dr. Israel Efros, members of a cultural delegation sent by the World Jewish Congress to tour the DP camps.
The delegation, which was refused an extension of its stay in Germany by UNRRA authorities, reported that it was closely watched by UNRRA officials during lectures delivered at gatherings in the camps. UNRRA also requested advance summaries of scheduled talks, and some of the UNRRA officials were generally dissatisfied with the fact that Jewish cultural activities were being conducted among the Jews in the camps, Dr. Efros declared. Both delegates appealed to the Jews of America to do everything possible to have the Jews moved from Germany as speedily as possible.
