Justice Department Investigating Klan in Seven States; Promises to Take Action

The Justice Department disclosed today that it was investigating the Ku Klux Klan in New York, Michigan, Tennessee, Florida, California, Mississippi and Georgia and would direct action against the organization wherever violations of Federal laws were found, it was announced here today.

Complaints of renewed Klan activities in all parts of the country have been received by the Department from individuals, labor unions, civic and other groups, it was added. New Jersey and Kentucky, both of which expressed a desire to follow New York’s lead in obtaining a court order outlawing all Klan activities, are presently carrying on inquiries of their own.
