A policy of large-scale immigration from Europe was announced here today by Prime Minister Jan Christian Smuts, addressing the South Africa Parliament.
Smuts said that persons in Europe had an “irresistible urge to get away from the scene of conflict and horror.” He did not specify, however, what type of immigrants would be welcomed.
