The British Government has not yet formulated any policy with regard to transferring the Palestine Mandate to a United Nations trusteeship or securing for itself sole trusteeship over the country, it was learned today from a very reliable source.
The JTA informant made this disclosure in commenting on a report disseminated today by an American news agency that Britain has decided to ask the U.N. Trusteeship Council to make it sole trustee for Palestine, following talks with the Arabs and Jews.
The Palestine situation has quieted down as far as London is concerned and no action by the government is expected for the next few days. Prime Minister Attlee is leaving tonight for a holiday in Wales and Colonial Secretary George Hall is also going on vacation. It is unlikely that the Cabinet meeting scheduled to be held tomorrow to discuss Palestine will take place.
