Describing Transjordan as an “appendage of the British Empire” which is “completely under its domination,” Representative Emanuel Celler today issued the text of a letter which he has sent to Trygve Lie, secretary of the United Nations Organization, in which he urged that Transjordan’s application for membership in the U.N. be rejected.

“Transjordan cannot call its soul its own,” Celler wrote. “Practically all finances are supplied by the British. Transjordan is a mere puppet of Great Britain. Its vote in the United Nations Assembly would be cast only as Great Britain dictated.”
