Asserting that the present disturbed political situation in Palestine has not halted the reconstruction program for the Jewish homeland, Charles J. Rosenbloom, national chairman of the $100,000,000 campaign of the United Jewish Appeal, returning today from a ten weeks’ visit to Palestine, predicted that the rate of Jewish immigration would increase in the coming months as a result of the pressure of European Jews seeking to escape persecution and homelessness.
Describing the scenes of misery and tragedy which he witnessed on refugee ships in Haifa harbor, Rosenbloom said: “No one who has not seen the tragic survivors as they reach out for the shores of Palestine can comprehend the yearning and the intensity of the desire of the remnants of European Jewry to find freedom and release from wandering in the Jewish National Home. Whatever the political developments in the future, the 625,000 Jews in Palestine will not be deterred from their central purpose of bringing into their midst hundreds of thousands of their brothers and sisters who still wait for liberation from fear and homelessness.”
