Three of the 12 Jewish passengers who jumped overboard from the refugee ship For Freedoms were drowned, it was learned today. Their names have not yet been established.
The visaless immigrants were transferred to a British vessel for the voyage to the Cyprus detention camps. About 60 of the refugees who were ill remained behind in Haifa hospitals. The passengers included Jews from Poland, Hungary, Germany, Rumania and Austria. They disembarked today at Faragusta.
Reports from Cyprus tonight said that 574 additional German prisoners of war had arrived at Famagusta to help dig the foundations for a hospital to accommodate the Jewish immigrants.
