Chief Rabbi Meir Ashkenasi of Shanghai revealed on his arrival here today that Iraq authorities detained him for several days when the plane on which he was travelling from India touched at Basra, and refused to allow hom to proceed to Palestine.
After intervention by the British ambassador, Rabbi Ashkenasi was permitted to return to India, where he boarded a plane which flew non-stop to Palestine.
