Despite the lifting of the curfew in Palestine and the release of the Jewish leaders imprisoned at the Latrun camp, extremist groups have not ceased mining roads and bridges throughout the country.
Last night a 17-car oil train was blown up as it passed over a rail bridge near Ras el Ain, outside Tel Aviv. The locomotive engineer was seriously injured and all cars were derailed. A fire broke out, destroying five of the tank cars.
A Jewish driver of a civilian truck was seriously wounded when his vehicle struck a landmine near Rishon L’Zion. The extremists had apparently mined the road before they received news of the lifting of the curfew during which only military and government cars and trucks were permitted on Palestine roads.
From Cyprus it is reported that the Palestine Labor Party slate placed first by a slight margin in the elections for the World Zionist Congress which were held in the internment camps. The Labor Party received 816 votes; Hashomer Hatzair, 796; Poale Mizrachi, 650; Achduth Avoda, 680; and the Revisionists, 550.
