One thousand Jewish “infiltrees,” most of them from Poland, passed through Munich today en route from Austria to DP camps near Ansbach, north of here. Another group is expected tomorrow night.
Today’s arrivals appeared fairly well clothed and fed and had few complaints about their treatment. They are travelling in heated box cars. They were anxious for information about their destination and whether they would be able to work soon.
Rabbi Philip Bernstein, adviser on Jewish affairs in the U.S. zones in Germany and Austria, arrived here today to begin a ten-day tour of the camps in this area, particularly the new ones, to study the progress which has been made in winterizing them.
The JDC office here today reported that it is having 5,000 menorahs and thousands of candles manufactured for Chanukah, which begins on the evening of Dec. 17. It is also securing toys for about 20,000 children and hopes to obtain candy and extra rations.
