Sir Oswald Mosley, fascist leader, has been denied permission to leave England, “because there is a chance he might make mischief abroad,” Chancellor Jowitt stated in the House of Lords today.
Another reason for the ban, Lord Jowitt said, was the feeling by the government that Jews in countries Mosley planned to visit would be resentful. “If I were a Jew living in Europe, I should feel deeply annoyed by a visit to the country where I lived of a man who, rightly or wrongly, has been identified with being very anti-Jewish,” Lord Jowitt added.
The Lord Chancellor warned that “it is only too true that Fascism and Nazism have not been rooted out. They are lying dormant, but it is possible that they may one more be fanned into flames.”
