American military police today denied charges by seven displaced Jews that they were beaten by troops during questioning. The charges were filed this week with UNRRA and Jewish authorities.
The denial was contained in a preliminary report of the Second Constabulary Brigade Headquarters which admitted that the seven DP’s had been arrested last month in connection with the slaying of a German woman and her child, who, the American authorities asserted, were the mistress and illegitimate child of an unknown DP. The statement said that all seven were released without incident after questioning.
In the case of Herman Plachczinsky, who, it is charged, is being railroaded to cover up the fact that he and the other seven were beaten without justification by the troops, the Army stated he is being held on the charge of assaulting an Army officer, although the details of the charge were not given. It is not known when he will be tried, and UNRRA officials have not yet been permitted to see him. Military police officials have promised a more complete statement on the situation.
