The two-day annual conference of the American Council for Judaism concluded here today with the re-election of Lessing J. Rosenwald as president of the organization and with resolutions on Palestine and on the admission of more refugees to the United States.
The Council reaffirmed its support of the report of the Anglo-American Inquiry Committee “as a whole” and urged the U.S. Government to press for a solution of the Palestine question “as one of the problems jeopardizing the peace of the world,” along the lines set forth in the report of the Anglo-American Committee.
After pointing out that the problem of refugees and displaced persons should be treated as a humanitarian problem, the Council expressed its appreciation to President Truman for his efforts to have the United States assume a major and leading role in providing new homes for the displaced persons. The Council urged the President to parsevere in these efforts to the and that Congress may pass enabling legislation, on a temporary basis, to meet the present emergency DP situation.
In addition to Rosenwald other officers re-elected are: D. Hays Solis-Cohon, of Philadelphia, treasurer; Morris Wolf, of Philadelphia, secretary; Rabbi William H. Fineshriber, of Philadelphia, Rabbi Irving F. Reichert, of San Francisco, Fred F. Florence, of Dallas, Tex; Mrs. J. Walter Freiberg, of Cincinnati, Ralph Wolf, of New York, and David E. Stern, of Chicago, vice-presidents.
