A Czechoslovak Government commission now touring Carpatho-Russia – which was ceded to the Soviet Union last year – to act on applications of residents who wish to retain Czechoslovak citizenship is refusing to accept applications from Jews who were not previously registered as of Czech or Slovak nationality, it was learned this week.

As a result the Council of Jewish Communities has sent a memorandum to the Ministry of the Interior, asking that all Carpathian Jews who attended Czech or Slovak schools or participated in Czech or Slovak cultural activities be considered Czechs or Slovaks, and that their applications be acted upon favorably.
