There is no reason for anxiety concerning the welfare of Austrian Jews after the withdrawal of Allied occupation forces, Julius Deutsch, leader of the Austrian Socialist Party, stated in a cable to the Jewish Labor Committee.

His statement came in reply to a query by the Committee, which had expressed concern over the fate of the country’s Jews, particularly displaced persons, after the conclusion of the treaty being drafted in Moscow. Deutsch said the Jews “will be protected by our democratic laws and institutions and their complete safety guaranteed by the overwhelming majority of the population and especially the labor forces.”
