State Dept. Says It Will Back Plan for Session to Set Up Inquiry Body

The State Department announced this evening that it would support the British proposal for the calling of special session of the U.N. Assembly to appoint a commission to deal with the Palestine question. The State Department’s announcement read as follows:

“The Department today, in reply to a recent memorandum from the British Embassy in Washington, stated that it was prepared to agree to any procedure for handling the Palestine problem in the United Nations which was clearly in accordance with the Charter and would appear to expedite such handling.

“The Department indicated it was prepared to support the originel British proposal for the calling of a special session of the United Nations General Aseembly for the purpose of appointing a commission to deal with the Palestine question.”
