Sydney Pierce of Montreal who was appointed Canadian ##ssador to Mexico last week is the first Jew to hold an important diplomatic post ## the dominion’s history.Until his appointment, Pierce was chief of the Economic Division of the Department of External Affairs. He held a number of important governmental positions ##ring the war and was a lecturer at Delhousie University. His father, Asher Pierce, as a prominent Zionist leader during the early part of the century.
