Senator Edward Martin, Republican of Pennsyl?nia, today urged the United States to have “a clear understanding” with the British ##garding Palestine before procceeding with aid to Greece and Turkey. In the Senate debate on the proposed aid to the two countries, Martin said ?at the question of Palestine could have been solved with Great Britain in 1942 and ##43 “if, during World War II, we had been tough-minded enough to lay down conditions for our help and our lend-lease.”

Martin said he saw “similarity between the troubles faced by the British in ##eece and their problems in Palestine” and asked if the United States should not ##onsider the collateral aspects before it is too late.” This is a good time, he ##id, for the British to make clear “once and for all” their attitude on Palestine.
