Five thousand Jews and Italians held a public demonstration in Bari to condemn the hanging of Dov Gruner and three other Palestine Jews. An effigy of Foreign Secretary Ernest Bevin was burned.

In all refugee camps a deep feeling of resentment is noticeable. Memorial services were held in synagegues throughout the country, and here Chief Rabbi David Prato led the prayer for the dead.
