Commenting editorially on the United Nations special session, the Manchester ?ardian today declares that the discussion will be of some educational value to the American public, asserting that it has been known for a long time that the State Department is not nearly as pro-Zionist as the public and politicians would like. Although the government has thus far avoided committing itself, the newspaper says, it must be “uncomfortably” aware that it must make a decision shortly.

It also warns Britain that if it desires to remain the Mandatory in Palestine ?d to receive U.N. assistance, it must accept the verdict of the international body. ?iterating its previous arguments in favor of partition, the Guardian states that Britain dodged the partition issue because of fears of Arab opposition, but, it says, the situation will take on a new aspect if the U.N. including the Big Five were to ?ck such a solution.
