A joint delegation from all DP camps in Italy today visited the Rome headquarters of UNRRA to protest the recent decision halving the wages paid displaced persons for work done in the camps. The result of their protests is not known.
The first 200 of 500 Polish-Jewish children who were granted permission to enter Italy, following intercession by the Pope, arrived at Milan today from Salzburg. Most of them are orphans, but a few have parents, who will attempt to come here later. Up to now the parents have been unable to get visas.
Placards calling on Jews to battle Britain in Palestine and throughout the world appeared today in various sections of Italy where training camps for DP’s planning to settle in Palestine are located. They were signed by the Irgun Zvai Leumi. Italian police are investigating.
Three of the 100 Palestine teachers scheduled to be sent to Europe to work among displaced Jews have arrived here.
