A charge that “hostile elements” are attempting to sabtage the government’s decision to bring the perpetrators of the Jassy pogrom of 1941 to trial was made today by the Jewish Community Council.
In a special announcement the Council pointed to the fact that the trial has been postponed for almost three years and the perpetrators of the massacre are still at large. It urged the government to put an end to “these disgraceful maneuvers” and bring the Jassy criminals before a war crimes court.
(A report from Istanbul said that several officials of the former pro-Nazi government had fled Rumania in a plane which also carried Gen. Gheorge Stavrescu, one-time inspector-general of Rumanian artillery, who was implicated in the Jassy pogrom.)
