The Greater New York United Jewish Appeal campaign for $65,000,000 was formally reopened yesterday at an emergency luncheon meeting of 600 New York Jewish leaders.
Edward M.M. Warburg, chairman of the New York U.J.A., pointing out that the situation of the displaced Jews of Europe was rapidly approaching a crisis, announced that a special drive will be undertaken from June 10 to June 26 to raise “millions of additional dollars.”
Mr. Warburg explained that the worsening situation in Europe is caused by UNRRA’s liquidation at the end of this month, the International Refugee Organization’s inability to assume its full relief burden for months, cuts in the U.S. Army’s budget for occupation costs and the effect of European crop failures.
