Plans have been advanced to move some 3,000 Rumanian Jewish refugees from this city to camps in the American zone of Austria, it was earned today.
According to other reports the Austrian government is prepared to accept responsibility for housing and clothing another 5,000 in Vienna and to provide food for 118,000 on the same level as the Austrian population. The government is understood to have conditioned its proposal with a demand that all able bodied Jews be compelled to work in the Austrian economy at the normal wage for Austrians doing the ## job.
This solution is said to have been discussed because neither the American military authorities nor the Austrian government are inclined to attempt to repatriate the refugees by force. One major obstacle in the path of the proposed movement of ## 3,000 is the fact that they will have to be sent via the Russian zone, and Soviet authorities have forbidden the movement of displaced persons through their areas. however, it is hoped that they will make an exception for this group.
Meanwhile, discussions have been initiated with the Joint Distribution Committee for turning the wages such refugees would earn into foreign exchange for the aid of the relief organization. All food required by the Jews, over and above the mini?m supplied by the Austrians, will come from the J.D.C. Some sort of action on ## refugee problem must be taken soon because their number, estimated some time last week at 7,500, is increased daily by the arrival of several hundred new men, women and children.
