Rumanian Parliament Authorizes Penal Courts to Try and Punish War Criminals

The Rumanian Parliament has authorized ordinary final courts to try and punish war criminals instead of leaving their disposition to special peoples tribunals as heretofore, it was announced during the week-end.

The categories of war criminals who may be tried in the penal courts include: those who obtained property as a result of racial laws; those who ordered or initiated the establishment of ghettos and camps for Jews; those who ordered or applied inhuman treatement of ghetto inmates; those responsible for racial persecutions; and those who ## the deportations of persons to extermination camps. Punishment which the courts may administer in such cases includes sentences of two to 25 years at hard ## and deprivation of civil rights for a period of ten years.
