Impressed with the work of the ORT in Budapest, Dr. Julius Ortutay, Hungarian Minister of Education, today pledged to leaders of the organization that he will do “everything in his power” to further the interests of their trade schools.
The Minister made the promise following his attendance at the first post-war graduation exercises of an ORT technical high school which was re-opened in Budapest in 1945. The 22 graduates included twelve Jewish boys who had entered the school in 1943; the remainder were non-Jewish students who had attended other trade schools in Hungary but applied for a transfer to the ORT school to complete their training.
A memorial tablet was unveiled today at a ceremony in a new ward in the Chevra Kadisha hospital here. The ward was endowed by the United American Hungarian-Jewish Association. Oscar Sunshine, president of the society, one of the chief speakers at the ceremony, promised further help from American Jews.
